Barbados is an independent island country in the western Atlantic Ocean, just east of the Caribbean Sea, and is generally considered one of the Lesser Antilles islands. Barbados has a total land area of around 432 sq km, and a population of 282000. The terrain in Barbados is generally low-lying, with some higher ground in the interior.
The climate in Barbados is tropical with the trade winds blowing off the Atlantic keeping temperatures mild. Some of the less developed areas of Barbados have tropical woodland and mangroves, and other developed parts have sugar cane estates.
